Species: Rabbit
Kevin is a large, fearless rabbit. Unfortunately, his innate bravery made him an outsider in the underground network of tunnels inhabited by his usually skittish species. His life was at a low point in his late-thirties when he lost his position as a Defoliation Engineer after climate change began doing the job for free. His wife left him, and he began frequenting Internet chat rooms.
He established a relationship with another lonely soul, a widow named Kell. They arranged a face-to-face meeting at the Hoof and Root, a restaurant catering to all diets, at which he discovered that his new romantic interest was a wolf.
Despite their differences, love conquered all. Such a relationship broke every rule of society, but since Kevin was already an exile he had nothing to lose. When they married, he even agreed to take Kell's last name.
He pursued a career in online ventures and is now co-owner of the Hare-Link ISP that provides Internet solutions to his suburban town of Domain. His hobbies are gardening, watching TV and keeping the lawn trim by eating it.
Species: Wolf
When Kell's first husband was killed in a hunting accident (by unwisely attempting to take down a moose single-handedly), she was left to rear her young cub Rudy on her own. Over a decade later, she had risen the corporate ladder to become one of the top predators at Herd Thinners, Inc.
Smart, vivacious and proud of her now-teenage son, she still found life empty. Despite her attributes and her upper class lineage (rumored to descend from the legendary Big Bad Wolf) she had a hard time establishing relationships with fellow predators who saw her as a competitor. Then she met Kevin.
Unlike him, she was heavily invested in society's rules and expectations. A marriage to a rabbit would impact every aspect of her life: her relationships with her employer, her church, her relatives, her friends and even her son. She didn't hesitate. She accepts the consequences of that decision every day, and also the rewards that come with being an Alpha Female.
Species: Hedgehog
When you're covered in sharp quills, it's hard to understand why everyone close to you gets hurt. Adopted as an infant by Kevin and his first wife Angelique, she suffered abandonment issues when Angelique left them both.
In high school she met someone who finally saw her differently...with his sonar. Fenton the bat swept her off her feet and took her soaring through the midnight skies. Since both hedgehogs and bats eat insects, these flights also doubled as dining opportunities.
Now in college and married to Fenton, Lindesfarne has blossomed into a computer genius with a strong interest in genetic research. In a family of contrasts that somehow come together, the most surprising combination may be her rational scientific mind co-existing with her large romantic heart.
Species: Wolf cub
Rudy is a high school senior; impulsive, erratic, overloaded with hormones and disconcerted to find that a rabbit is now the head of the household. His often surly and sarcastic demeanor is a shield against the insecurities that come with losing a father at an early age.
As the son of a top predator, he found it difficult at first to live up to his mother's reputation in the art of bringing down prey. His initial hunting failures revealed that he has Dystracksia, which makes it a challenge for him to follow tracks. (He sees them as leading in many confusing directions.) He's since developed coping strategies that have enabled him to become Co-Captain of the school hunting team. His teammates are his girlfriend Fiona and his best buddy Bruno.

Coney is the offspring of Kevin and Kell.
